An embarrassing scandal played out at a Pentecostal church in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, during a program when the wife of the pastor stormed the church to create a scene over her husband's adulterous lifestyle.

Premium Times reports that the woman,Idongesit Ese, had accused her husband,Pastor Nsikanabasi Ese who is the founder and General Overseer of the Church, Kairos Rhema Embassy, of not just living an adulterous life but had impregnated a female member of the church.

According to the report, Idongesit who was prevented from entering the auditorium of the church located at Bassey Esau Street, off Aka Itiam Road, by the security men, was bent on creating a scene and defiantly stood at the church premises to tell her story.

Pastor Nsikanabasi Ese  (Kairos Gospel Embassy)

An eyewitness who narrated the incident said the angry woman would not be deterred by the security men as she was heard screaming:

“I want every man and woman who has a conscience in this church to ask my husband why he is doing this to me. Why would he be sleeping with a young girl who came to seek counseling and prayers from him?

caught my husband in a hotel having sex withEvelyn Etim, a member of our church. As I speak to you, Evelyn has given birth to a baby boy and she is living in Eket with my husband.”

It was gathered that the Pastor who may have had a whiff of his wife's invasion of the church before hand, had allegedly arranged the security men and other young men outside the church to stop her and the moment she stepped out of the car and walked up to the front of the church, a dozen of security men and the thugs accosted her and told her that she did not have the pastor’s permission to attend the church service.

Other people who witnessed the show of shame said they saw one of the thugs slapping the pastor’s wife.

The situation was however brought under control after policemen were invited to the premises of the church to restore order.

To further prove her accusations, Idongesit was said to have brought out photographs from her handbag including that of her bloodied face where she claimed her husband had beaten her when she caught him with Etim and showed them around to buttress her points.

“That’s when my husband, a so-called man of God, beat me and hit me with his car and ran away with Evelyn Etim when I caught them in the hotel,” she explained.

She was said to have also displayed a photo of a young woman whom she said was that of the alleged intruder, Etim.

“I want members of the church to know why I haven’t been attending programs in the church,” Idongesit continued.

“Many people have been calling my telephone line to inform me that my husband lied to the congregation that I traveled out of the country.

This is the moment of truth. Let the people know what has been going on in my marriage and in the church. I believed and trusted this man with my whole life.

I am still asking myself one question; is this the same man who once woke me up late in the night, stood stark naked before me, poured anointing all on his head and swore that God should destroy him and his ministry the day he sleeps with any woman other than his wife?”

There was commotion in the house of God  (Premium Times)

The program that was going on in the church on the day of the incident was said to be a special emergency deliverance service with the theme 'One of Us Is in Trouble'.

A guest minister, Rufus Willie, the senior pastor of Living Fire Ministries, Eket, who was delivering the sermon, was said to have persuaded the members who had become uneasy at the show of shame to remain calm.

“God should be feared. When this program was fixed and a theme was given for it, nobody knew what would happen today. Truly, one of us is in trouble,” Pastor Willie was quoted as saying.

According to some church members, Pastor Ese had, on several occasions, accused his wife of having lied to him about her age and her level of education and that he had since filed for a divorce in a customary court in the state.

A clergyman who gave his name as Mosesand stood in as Pastor Ese’s father during his traditional marriage told reporters that he was disappointed with what was happening in the pastor’s five-year-old marriage.

“He (Pastor Ese) didn’t give me any vital reason why he should divorce the wife; he just said the woman is harsh, the woman is this, the woman is that.

I said to him, ‘have you reported to me since I came and signed as a father to you during the marriage ceremony? Have you brought the woman to say this is what the woman did?’

N-Power: Beneficiaries Count Gains After Five Months Of Empowerment

Some beneficiaries of the Federal Government N-Power under the National Social Investment Programme, N-SIP, have started counting the gains of the programme after five months of empowerment, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

N-Power is one of the components of N-SIP, aimed at empowering Nigerians both graduates and non-graduates between the ages of 18 and 35 by paying them N30,000 monthly over a period of two years.

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke on Wednesday in Abuja, said that the programme had established them and taken them out of poverty.

Nwanjel Alfred, a beneficiary of N-Power graduate scheme in Plateau said he was employed under the scheme and posted to a Nomadic primary school in the state as a teacher.

“I graduated in 2011, did NYSC in 2012 and I was not employed for five years; I studied Biology Education but have passion for agriculture.

“There is no capital to start agric project but as soon as I started receiving my stipend in December 2016, I went into farming.

“I have been able to plant and harvest 15 bags of Irish Potatoes seedlings and I thank God the potatoes are doing well.

“Hopefully in July, I should be able to harvest 50 bags from the farm,” he said.

The beneficiary, however, appealed to the government to ensure the sustainability of the programme by giving them full employment after the two years duration of the programme.

Similarly, a beneficiary from Taraba, Jeremiah Daniel, who graduated in 2008, said he became a photographer as there was no job.

“A photographer turns a teacher, courtesy of N-power and I have been able to embark on contributory scheme from my stipend.

“We are six posted to a secondary in the state, we contribute N30,000 (all the stipend) and I have received N180,000 from the first round of contribution and I want to open a cyber café.

“I have been able to render such service in a rural community in addition to the photography,” he said.

Mr. Daniel said that the government had promised to also give them digital device as part of the programme to empower them technologically.

He said that the government had been paying N4,500 monthly to a company that would supply the electronic gadgets, which they promised would be ready for disbursement in June.

Mr. Daniel, however, advised youths to desist from involving in social vices and engage in business to support and make them self-reliant.

Rabi Ismail was sentenced to death by hanging, for culpable homicide by a High Court in Kano on the 5th of January, 2005.
She was subsequently held in Kaduna Central prison from where she was transferred to Hadejia prison before she escaped about 6 years ago.

In July 2011, the Supreme Court upheld the sentence of the lower courts that sentenced her to death by hanging for killing a male friend, Auwalu Ibrahim, to acquire his property. The court found her guilty for drugging and drowning Mr Ibrahim in 2002 in Kano.

The Controller General of Prisons expressed appreciation to the assistance rendered by security agencies particularly the SSS and the police in arresting the fugitive.

He appealed to members of the public to continue to provide useful information on escapees and indeed any criminal element in their midst to security agents, noting that such outlaws pose security threats to the society.

He assures that security measures have been strengthened to prevent persons in prison custody from escaping.

From The Archives...Letter From Lt.Col. Ojukwu To Lt. Col.Banjo 22nd August 1967

Late Col. Odumegwu Ojukwu

My dear Victor,

1. For some time now, you and I have been discussing the circumstances that have led to the current and inevitable disintegration of what was the Federation of Nigeria. We have been fully convinced that the aim of the Hausa/Fulani complex has ever been, and will ever remain, the total domination of every other part of what was known as the Federation of Nigeria. It is impossible to forget that the crisis which led to the army take over in January 1966, the coup of the Northern soldiers led by Gowon in July 1966, the wholesale and indiscriminate massacre of the people of what is now Biafra- and, to a less degree, the people of the Mid-West and West, including the Yorubas, were all the direct result of Hausa/Fulani attempt to subjugate and use as tools, the gallant people of Western Nigeria namely the Yorubas. We do not need to remind ourselves of the heavy losses in life and property suffered by the Yoruba people in their fight for justice and freedom during 1965.

2. Sharing.our belief that the people of Yorubaland have a right to live a life of equality and self-respect and justice free of domination and dictatorship from any quarter, you have both identified with the cause of the Biafra struggle for survival and expressed your determination to see the people of Yorubaland freed from Hausa/Fulani domination. We, the people of Biafra, for our part are willing and have decided to give you and the people of Yorubaland every assistance to achieve your aim.

3. After clearing the whole question with my Executive Council, I, as the Commander in Chief of the Biafran Armed Forces, have decided to place at your disposal Biafran forces, for the liberation of Yorubaland on the following clear conditions:- (i) You will have nothing to do with the Military Administrator in the Mid-West Territory during your sojourn there prior to your move to the West. (ii) The willingness and preparedness of Biafra to assist any part of the former Federation of Nigeria wishing and willing to liberate itself from the Hausa/Fulani domination, does not in anyway whatever imply any inclination on her part to compromise her sovereignty or preserve what remains of the defunct Federation of Nigeria. In other words, our sovereignty and break with Nigeria is irrevocable. Nothing must, therefore be said or done by you or any member of the Liberation Army to give a contrary impression. (iii) Biafra is determined to maintain and safeguard her sovereignty and ensure that her integrity and safety are never again threatened. (iv) Biafran troops will, after the liberation of the Yorubaland, remain in that territory only for as long as we in Biafra consider it necessary for the Yorubas to consolidate their position and sovereignty against any external threat. (v) On the liberation of the Yorubaland, you will be appointed as the Military Governor of that territory. (vi) The liberation of Western Nigeria will be a prelude to the liberation of all Yorubas up to the River Niger and the severance of all connections between the West and the North at Jebba. (vii) During the period of Biafrans troops’ presence in your territory, all political measures, statements or decrees shall be subject to the approval, in writing by myself or on my authority. (viii) Should our troops arrive and liberate Lagos, the government of the Republic of Biafra reserves the right to appoint a Military administrator for the territory. Such an Administrator will remain in office until a merger of that territory with Yorubaland is effected by Biafran troops. (ix) As soon as possible after your appointment as the Military Governor of Western Nigeria and separation of that territory from Nigeria, you and I must meet to discuss: (a) the duration of stay of Biafran troops in your territory; (b) the areas and subjects of cooperation between the liberated sovereign states of Western Nigeria, or by what name it may call itself, and Biafra.

4. I do not need to remind you that Biafra regards all Yoruba as friends. As such everything should be done, to ensure the minimum force and loss of life are involved in achieving the objective of liberation.

5. It is essential, in order to avoid misunderstanding or confusion, that all subsequent requests for support be formally made to me by you in writing.

6. Will you please signify in writing, your acceptance of the above conditions so that you may leave for Western Nigeria and lead the army of liberation.

Yours very sincerely, signed Lt. Col. Odumegwu Ojukwu,
Military Governor and Commander in Chief of Biafran Armed Forces.

NYSC To Post Corp Members To Farms

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Suleiman Kazaure, said on Monday that the scheme would soon begin posting of corps members to farms.

Mr. Kazaure said this in an interview with journalists during his official visit to the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Sagamu, Ogun State.

He said that the move to deploy corps members in farms as in line with the agricultural development programme of the NYSC.

According to him, the NYSC has concluded preparations to begin the posting at the conclusion of the three-week orientation exercise.

He said that Bauchi, Oyo, Kebbi and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, had been earmarked for the pilot phase.

“It should interest you to know that the NYSC will soon begin its agricultural development scheme where corps members will be posted to farms for their primary assignments.

“Already the NYSC has acquired active farmlands across the nation’s geopolitical zones with four already fully operational in Kwali, Bauchi, Oyo and Kebbi.

“After this orientation programme for the Batch ‘A’ corps members, we will begin posting some of them to these farms as a pilot phase.

“Though we are starting with four states for now, we will integrate the other states as time goes, the project is ongoing,” Mr. Kazaure said.

The NYSC boss had tasked the corps members not to seek white-collar jobs which were non-existent but rather develop their potentials for entrepreneurship excellence.

He said the corps members could begin their journey toward financial independence by tapping into and maximising the benefits of the NYSCs Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme.

Mr. Kazaure said that the SAED programme was made possible by partnership with public and private sector organisations to build entrepreneurial capacity.

Gladys Mbachi, the Ogun Coordinator of the NYSC, thanked the director general for the visit and emphasis on SAED programme.

Mr. Kazaure’s visit was to inspect facilities at the camp and to familiarise himself with the 2017 Batch ‘A’ Stream I corps members undergoing orientation at the camp.

APC will give Buhari an automatic ticket in 2019 – Party chairman says

APC National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), John Oyegun has said that President Buhari will be given an automatic ticket by the party to run for the 2019 election.

Oyegun also said that Buhari’s government has performed very well, adding that his stand against corruption is part of the APC change agenda.

The APC chairman also said what is most important, is for Nigerians to pray for the President.

He also debunked reports of a frosty relationship between the presidency and officials of the APC.

According to ThisDay, Oyegun said “The thinking that ‘will he be president in 2019’ is really not doing any good, his need today is good health. When we get to 2019, it is for him to decide if he wants to run or if he doesn’t want to run and to consult the party on his decision.

“If he wants to run good and if he doesn’t want to run the country isn’t bereft, the party isn’t bereft of capable hands.

“Why build bridges if there is no river to cross? Why don’t you wait until you come across a river then you build a bridge. With all due respect, for what it stands for, what is critical today is that our prayer is our good Lord will restore the president to robust, good health; that is the first thing.

“But the prime thing that he will be considering today isn’t to think of 2019. It is to have his health fully restored and I am sure he will give anything just to have his health restored. Let’s terminate it at that point; when 2019 comes we will deal with the issues that arise.”

Acting President Says Nigerians Can Now Own Houses With N30,000

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo says under the N100 billion social housing scheme of the present administration, anyone who can afford N30,000 will be able to own a house.

He said this at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday at an event tagged "A Smile for Every Nigerian" organised to commemorate the administration's second anniversary.

The acting president explained that the housing scheme was part of the administration's social intervention prpgramme that had not been mentioned.

He said: "This is 100bn set aside for the Family Home Fund our Social Housing Project. The 100b is a yearly contribution to our N1trn Social Housing Fund, the largest in the history of the country. The World Bank and the African Development Bank are contributors to the Fund. From this Fund, developers will borrow 80% of the cost of project and counter fund with their own 20%.

"The same fund will enable us to provide inexpensive mortgages for hundreds of thousands across the country who want to own homes. Anyone who can afford N30,000 will be able to buy a home under our new social housing fund scheme. Already, the project has started in 11 states. We expect that this family housing fund will jump start and expand construction exponentially across the country."

Speaking further, the acting president maintained that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth should translate to jobs.

"First the trickle down model has proved far too slow to stem the tide of poverty in one of the fastest growing populations in the world. Secondly, most of the growth was on account of the oil sector which is capital intensive but not labour intensive.

"So, while we were recording growth levels of 7% because of the high oil prices, unemployment figures grew, the acting president stated.

He sad in developing the APC manifesto and the economic development plans, the administration knew it had to directly intervene with a massive social investment programme that would tackle poverty and exclusion across the various spectra.

Pete Edochie's Brother Lands in Serious Trouble Over Killings in Anambra Land Dispute

A 70-year-old brother of a Nollywood actor, Pete Edochie has been arrested by policemen following the death of five persons killed in a land dispute at Nteje, Oyi local government area of Anambra State.

The traditional ruler of the community, Igwe Rowland Odegbo, disclosed this to newsmen in Awka, the state capital on Monday. He said 18 persons had been arrested from the community over the dispute, including a 70-year-old brother of a Nollywood actor, Pete Edochie.

According to Punch, Odegbo said he escaped being arrested following Governor Willie Obiano’s intervention. He decried incessant harassment of his people by the police from outside the state, stating that his community was under police siege.

He said some of the people killed were the morgue, while most youths in the area had fled the town and hidden in forests for fear of being arrested and taken to Abuja by the powers that be.

He gave the list of the persons arrested and being detained in Abuja SARS as Chief Ikechukwu Edochie, Chief Cyril Nwankwo, Mr. Vincent Okongu, Pastor Vin Nnaemeka, Modilim Nwene, Anthony Ewenike, Dominic Oboh, Sunday Mobi, Paul Aghadinuno, the landMonday Nwafor and Nwoye Amamchukwu.

Others were Obelagu Mobi, Koife Chukwuemeka, Ogwugwua Nweke, Fidelis Cordi, Ibe Kenneth, Chijioke Anyanti and Uchenna Oraegbunam.

The monarch said the land dispute was engineered by land speculators who constituted themselves into a cabal and illegally sold communal land for many years.

He said they were not making any returns to the villagers, hence trouble began which led to the death of three persons on 11th of March this year when two factions involved in the sale of the land clashed.

He said when some soldiers intervened in the matter to quell the riot, one of the groups attacked the soldiers, leading to the death of one other person whose body was still in the mortuary.

Calling on Governor Obiano to set up a panel of enquiry to look into the matter, Igwe Odegbo said: “The major problem we have is that one policeman, who was at the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, Awkuzu and now an assistant commissioner of police in charge of SARS in Abuja, is being used to come into Nteje and arrest people and take them to Abuja without recourse to the Anambra State police command”.

His statement said “There was even a petition that I, the traditional ruler, should be brought to Abuja and they would have carried me if the Anambra State governor had not intervened.

“I was addressing a village meeting when the policemen came and said that I was needed in Abuja. However, following the intervention of the governor, they asked me to come at my own time, but I knew that was a face-saving measure on their part.

“When one person was killed recently, the same Abuja SARS came to Nteje and arrested many people who are yet to be released.

“I don’t know why Abuja SARS should be bypassing Anambra State police command to come and carry people to Abuja. What borders me is that when three people were killed in March, there was a petition to the police, while another group wrote another petition and included me.

“What has been happening here is that petitions have been flying and arrests made indiscriminately. I really don’t understand why our people should be intimidated by a group and trying to rope in the traditional ruler because someone was opposed to my being crowned the Igwe of Nteje.

“Our community needs help because we are under police siege from Abuja. Those arrested were carried in two buses and taken to Abuja on thumped up charges and I would have been among them if I am not the traditional ruler.”

NBA calls for immediate release of Dasuki, El-Zakzakky

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has called on the Federal Government to without delay release the former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd), and the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

NBA president, Mr. Abubakar Mahmoud (SAN), made this call when he addressed newsmen in Abuja on Monday, describing the continued detention of the two men by President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government as unjustifiable.

“The NBA wishes to use this opportunity to call on the Federal Government to continually demonstrate religious adherence to the tenets of constitutional democracy. In this regard the NBA is appalled at the continued detention of certain individuals in blatant disobedience to court orders.

“Amongst these individuals are Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky and his wife and also Colonel Sambo Dasuki, the former national security adviser. Whilst we recognise the serious the charges on which these individuals are held, we nevertheless view their continued detention as unjustified and contrary to the express court orders.

“We call on the government to without further delay respect these orders,” he said.

Different court rulings have ordered for the release of both men who have been in the custody of the Department of State Service (DSS) for about two years.

However, the court orders have fallen on deaf ears as Nigeria’s secret police has refused to release them.

7 children, 14 women and 12 men drowned after boat capsized in Mediterranean

Malta-based NGO, Migrant Offshore Aid Station, MOAS, has released statement on the Mediterranean tragedy in which over 30 African migrants including toddlers drowned. Read below:
24th May 2017 saw one of MOAS’ most tragic rescues to date. Overcrowding and sea swell tipped hundreds into the water during a rescue yesterday. 32 bodies were recovered to MOAS vessel Phoenix alongside 604 survivors, one of whom has since died on board despite our medical crew’s desperate efforts to save him.

Several survivors are still in critical condition, including a 6-month pregnant woman who is being monitored for pregnancy related complications following the stress of losing her young son yesterday.
The MOAS aircraft began spotting vessels in distress in the early morning of Wednesdayand the Phoenix’s RHIBS (rubber hulled inflatable boats) were soon after deployed to begin the first rescue. As people shifted on deck following life-jacket distribution a slight swell hit the vessel, causing it to roll heavily, washing approximately 400 people overboard leaving still hundreds locked below deck in the hold.
At this point the Phoenix issued a mayday relay to authorities as the MOAS RHIBs began pulling people from the water and other MOAS crew members attempted to break the locks into the hold of the wooden boat to rescue survivors from below deck.
An Italian navy helicopter appeared on scene to scout survivors, a Spanish aircraft deployed 3 life rafts and the Italian Coast Guard, navy and 2 commercial vessels approached to assist as many hundreds remained in the water. The numbers of people in the water made the rescue efforts increasingly delicate, requiring extreme caution and care as the rescue boats navigated the people and debris at sea in a hunt for survivors.
604 survivors were eventually embarked onto the Phoenix, both from the water and the hold of the wooden boat, following forced entry by the MOAS team.  Approximately 80 survivors were also taken on board by tug boat Gagliardo.
As the recovery operation for casualties began, MOAS’ post rescue medical team turned their attention to the survivors in critical condition. Three of the most critical patients, diagnosed to be suffering from broken and fractured bones and a 9-month pregnant woman suffering from complications (accompanied by 2 family members), were medically evacuated from Phoenix by the Italian Navy vessel Libra.
Despite tireless life – saving efforts by the MOAS post rescue team, one man eventually succumbed to complications on board and has passed away. A 6-month pregnant woman whose young child is among the casualties on board is also being monitored closely following complications related to her pregnancy.

“There are no words for what is happening in the Central Mediterranean right now. It is a horrifying tragedy that continues to unfold on Europe’s doorstep. MOAS is doing everything it can but alternative solutions must be found by Europe’s leaders if this continuing loss of life is to be mitigated.” Says Christopher Catrambone, MOAS founder who was witness to yesterday’s rescue efforts.

Finally, the Phoenix began its journey north with 598 survivors and 33 casualties on board and is due to disembark in an Italian port on the morning of Friday 26th May.
Regina Catrambone, MOAS Director, says:

“We are all devastated by the needless loss of life yesterday, particularly that of young children. We strongly urge the G7 leaders currently meeting in Sicily, at the heart of this humanitarian crisis, to focus on implementable humanitarian solutions, rather than pushing unrealistic agendas centred around border control. As the Phoenix sails north today it not only carries the weight of the 32 bodies recovered at sea, but also the weight of the apathy of the global community and its leaders.”

BREAKING: Get Ready For War, Mr Acting President ! It Has Been Signed And Sealed That Nigeria Must Cease To Exist Before Sick Buhari Returns From

The Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has described the last two years of President Muhammadu Buhari being in charge of Nigeria as a disaster as he call fro the break up of the entity call Nigeria.

Fani-Kayode who stated this in a Democracy Day message he tweeted on his handle on Monday evening insisted that Nigeria would be restructured sooner or later and if that was not done, the country will break up and cease to be in a matter of years.

He said, “Happy Democracy Day Nigeria, the last two years under Muhammadu Buhari have been a disaster. Sooner or later this country must be restructured.

“If we fail to restructure her Nigeria will break up, will be redefined and will cease to exist as we know it in a matter of years.”

Recall that Fani-Kayode who at present has two separate corruption charges levelled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has remained a fierce critic of Buhari and his APC-led Federal Government.

Disregard Sit-At-Home Order By IPOB – Group Urges Igbo

A group, known as the Igbo for Nigeria Movement (INM) has called on all residents of the south-eastern part of the country to disregard the May 30 sit-at-home order by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB).

INM, in a statement by its National Leader, Igwe Ifeanyi, described the order by the pro-Biafra groups as a journey to self-destruction cautioning that the mistakes which led to the civil war should be avoided at all cost.

“Our people, Ndi Igbo, embittered by the glaring inequalities in the running of the country, especially the mindless slaughter of Igbo with the passive and active endorsement of the government of that time precipitated the decision by our people to secede from Nigeria and pursue our future separate from a group of people that had treated us unfairly,” the statement read.

“Let us quickly point out here that we are by no means implying that all is well in terms of fiscal federalism. Like other ethnic nationalities and geo-political zones, we desire greater self-determination; we will like to move at an economic pace that is more consistent with our exceptional enterprising spirit.

“Like others, we want the liberty to control the resources produced in our homeland and deploy same to develop our states at a pace that is consistent with our aspirations. These are goals that we have diligently pursued through non-violent means and intellectual agitation.

“Unfortunately, these efforts have been greatly undermined by the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Biafra Independence Movement (BIM), Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and other configurations.

“Igbo all over the country should go about their business and not listen to any sit-at-home order.

“Igbo must recognise the imperative of not exposing our flanks to the other ethnic nationalities whose own people can cash in on the closure of Igbo businesses to take over our clientele when we open the way for people to feel frustrated.”

Confusion As Northern Leaders Pay Secret Visit To Jonathan, Beg Him Not To Contest Again For President, In 2019

Emerging reports, have revealed that some Northern Leaders of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, are mounting pressure on former President, Goodluck Jonathan, not to contest the 2019 Presidential poll.

A top source source, listed the Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu, the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Akpabio, and some Governors (whose names were not revealed), as some of those being considered for the Vice Presidential slot, if Jonathan agrees to bury his alleged Presidential ambition.

Recall, that the opposition party had already zoned its Presidential ticket to the North, irrespective of who between Senator Ahmed Makarfi, and Senator Ali Modu-Sheriff, wins the PDP leadership contest at the Supreme Court.

While many party leaders still have a lot of affection for Jonathan, for “keeping faith with his transition programme”, and want him to have a fresh shot at the Presidency, others strongly believe that it will be difficult to sell his candidature to the majority of Nigerian voters.

A top source in PDP said: “Although we are awaiting the decision of the Supreme Court on the leadership of our party, we have gone far with our homework.

“A realistic option we have faced, is the fact that to win in 2019, we have to retain our Presidential ticket in the North. The PDP is still solid in the South-East and in the South-South.

“We have however, come to appreciate that conceding the ticket to ex-President Jonathan might not work, considering ethnic colouration which beclouded the last Presidential election.

“The allegations raised against some key actors in Jonathan’s government, including the ex-First Lady, have made the choice of the ex-President a hard sell.”

“We are however, leaving the ticket open to the North. We anticipate that some defectors from APC might add more strength to our search for a candidate, that can beat APC to the game.

“We want to try as much as possible, to provide alternatives to APC. Of recent, ex-Governor, Sule Lamido, is the only leader who has come out with his Presidential aspiration.

“Even when an attempt was made to enable the Forum of former Ministers to endorse Lamido, it was not accepted.

Again, the source listed the Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu, the Senate Minority Leader, Sen. Akpabio, and some Governors (whose names were not revealed), as some of those being considered for the VP slot.

“Certainly, the PDP will pick its running mate from either the South-East or the South-South.

“Our search team said it is impossible for the party to look forward to the South-West, because of the grip of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and the ongoing consolidation in the zone by the APC.”

Tiger Woods arrested, booked into jail

Golf superstar Tiger Woods was arrested Monday in Florida on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to records from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

The 14-time major champion was booked into the Palm Beach County jail on Monday at 7:18 am (1118 GMT) after he was arrested by police in Jupiter, Florida.

He was released on his own recognizance at 10:50, am according to the documents, with a mugshot posted online showing a tired-looking and unshaven Woods.

Woods was arrested during a traffic stop around 3 am, Kristin Rightler, public information officer of the Jupiter Police Department said.

Further details of the incident were not immediately available.

Woods, 41, hasn’t played competitive golf since pulling out of the Dubai Desert Classic in February after one round because of back pain.

He had spinal fusion surgery on April 20 – his fourth surgery in three years to treat his troublesome back which has limited him to three tournament starts worldwide in the past two years.

Woods wrote on his website last week that since his latest procedure he was feeling better than he had in years and remained committed to returning to competitive golf.

“My surgeon and physiotherapist say the operation was successful. It’s just a matter of not screwing up and letting it fuse,” Woods wrote.

“I’m walking and doing my exercises, and taking my kids to and from school. All I can do is take it day by day. There’s no hurry.

“But, I want to say unequivocally, I want to play professional golf again.”

Woods made his comeback in December after missing all of the 2015-16 season.

But his return quickly ran aground as he withdrew from the PGA Tour event in Los Angeles in February, the Honda Classic and the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March.

He even cancelled a planned press conference at the Los Angeles tournament saying doctors had advised him to “limit all activities”.

He pulled out of the Masters in early April, missing the first major of the year on the 20th anniversary of his epic 1997 victory at Augusta National that marked his first major title and signalled a new era in the game.

Woods, once widely expected to surpass Jack Nicklaus's record of 18 major championships, hasn’t won a grand slam title since the 2008 US Open at Torrey Pines.

Injuries haven’t been the only disruptions to his on-course career.

In November of 2009 a car accident outside his Florida home led to revelations of a series of infidelities that wrecked his marriage.

Amid lurid tabloid headlines Woods took a break from professional golf that lasted until the 2010 Masters. (AFP)
