Man chops off daughter's finger over haircut in Ogun State

For chopping off his 14-year-old daughter’s finger because she failed to cut her hair after he gave her N100 for that, the Ogun State Police Command have declared the weird father wanted.

The nongovernmental group, Child Protection Network,  which reported the case to police, claimed unnamed child was preparing for her junior secondary school certificate examination when she was attacked by her father, Musa Olayinka, in the incident that happened at  Ijebu-Ode town of Ogun State.

“We met the 14-year-old girl JSS3 student who is supposed to be having her Junior WAEC by now, with one of her left fingers cut off by the father and a lot of marks on her body due to the rope that was used to tie her and the cane mark,” he said.

“She is a maternal orphan, we also saw the step-mother but the father is nowhere to be found. She was punished by the father because she refused to cut her hair after receiving N100 for the haircut.”

According to Premium Times, the group said the girl had initially fled to her grandparent’s, following her father’s earlier threat, but was later returned home after the father agreed to “forgive” her.

The girl was tied and beaten by her father, who later cut off her finger. She was rescued by the local vigilante, who took her to the hospital for treatment while the father fled.

Police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said suspect would be apprehended.

My Wife Has Turned Me Into A Punching Bag - Husband Begs Court For Divorce

“My wife will beat me to death one day if I continue with the marriage,’’ a 67-year-old man, Mr Olawale Jayeola, told an Igando Customary Court in Lagos State.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Olawale, an engineer, said his wife, Olatayo, was fond of punching him as if she were punching a bag, beating him like a baby.

“I have scars all over my body as proofs of her abuse. I live every minute of my life in fear. Save me from the cruel hands of my wife.

“I have suffered so much in silence; anytime we had misunderstanding, she would beat the hell out of me,” he said.

According to him, the marriage has been turbulent and fraught with fights and quarrels.

“I have not been at peace since l got married to my wife; she is so quarrelsome.

“I brought her to court in 2013 for the dissolution of the marriage, but she begged me and promised to change.

“The court asked her to write an undertaking not to be beating me again, which she wrote and the case was put on “sine die’’ stage.

“She has refused to change. Instead, her behaviour towards me has been hostile and the beating continued unabated,” the plaintiff said.

He said that his wife didn’t care for him and didn’t give him food.

Olawale also alleged that his wife threatened to burn his two cars.

“Please, end this loveless marriage before my wife terminates my life,” he said.

The defendant, Olatayo, however, denied all the allegations.

“I never beat my husband neither did I threaten to burn his cars,” she said.

The mother of three said she was not a troublemaker, but peaceful, noting that she was taking good care of her husband.

She pleaded passionately with the court not to dissolve the marriage, saying she was still in love with her husband.

The president of the court, Mr Adegboyega Omilola, ordered the couple to come along with three members of their families each, for Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).

He adjourned the case until July 25 for further hearing.

7 Nigerians Elected Into UK Parliament

No fewer than seven Nigerians have been re-elected into the United Kingdom parliament in an election held on Thursday. The MPs comprised of five females and two males.

According to reports, the parliament members include Kemi Badenoch representing Saffron Walden; Chuka Umunna representing Streatham; Kate Osamor representing Edmonton; Bim Afolami representing Hitchin and Harpenden; Fiona Onasanya representing Peterborough; Helen Grant representing Maidstone and The Weald and Chi Onwurah representing Newcastle.

According to UK Telegraph, Onwurah, who contested under the Labour Party, won 24,071 votes to defeat Tory candidate, Steve Kyte, who had 9, 134 votes. Similarly, Umunna, 38, of the Labour Party, won the election to represent Streatham which she had represented since 2008.

Onwurah, 52, is said to be Newcastle’s first member of parliament, Osamor, 48, was also elected on the platform of LP, while Badenoch, 38, was elected on the platform of the Conservative Party.

Also, Onasanya, who ran on the platform of the Labour Party, was the deputy leader of the Labour Group on Cambridgeshire until her re-election, while Grant, 55, who represents Maidstone and The Weald since 2010, was said to be the first black member of parliament from Conservatives.

In the same vein, Afolami, who is of the Conservative Party won re-election, and she was quoted to have said, “I’m feeling completely over the moon to be the new MP for Hitchin and Harpenden. It’s such a great feeling. I’m completely honoured. I would like to pay tribute to my opponents who fought a fair and democratic fight.”

The Prime Minister, Theresa May, suffered a major setback in the tumultuous election, losing her overall majority in Parliament and throwing her government into uncertainty less than two weeks before it is scheduled to begin negotiations over withdrawing from the European Union.

May, the Conservative leader, called the snap election three years early, expecting to cruise to a smashing victory that would win her a mandate to see Britain through the long and difficult negotiations with European leaders over the terms of leaving the union.
