Policemen Murder Okada Driver Over N50

There is tension as the Police in Enugu State and members of Ikpa-modo, Enugu Ezike, in Igboeze North LGA of the state trade blames over the death of 38-year-old man, Bitrus Chukwudi Ugwuanyi.

It was alleged that Ugwuanyi, who was an Okadama (commercial motorcyclist), was killed by policemen for his inability to pay them N50, after he was arrested at a checkpoint at Ugwu Ekposhi and asked to pay N50, Vanguard reports.

He reportedly said he had nothing on him, as he was on his first trip of the day. An eyewitness said an altercation with one of the officers reportedly led to the killing of Ugwuanyi in the presence of his female passenger. .

It was further alleged that when it dawned on the policeman that his victim was dead, he quickly raised an alarm that the dead man snatched his AK-47 riffle, which led to the arrival of members of the Igboeze North Central Neighbourhood Watch at the scene. .

The Neighbourhood Watch members were said to have fired more shots on the dead body, before they paraded the corpse around the town, celebrating that he was killed for allegedly “snatching a gun from a policeman.” .

Trouble began when Ugwuanyi’s kinsmen protested his murder, saying that he was not known to be of bad character. Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu, said that the police would rely on the information that Ugwuanyi was killed in the course of trying to retrieve the AK-47 riffle until the contrary was proved. .

Amaraizu, however, advised the relations of the deceased to raise a petition to the state Police Commissioner, Danmalam Mohammed, if they were sure of their new position.

Pope Francis threatens to fire Nigerian priests

Pope Francis has laid down an ultimatum to defiant Nigerian priests: lose your job if you don’t obey me and your bishop.

According to a report by Associated Press, Pope Francis met June 8 at the Vatican with a delegation from the Ahiara diocese, south-east Nigeria where priests have been refusing to accept the 2012 appointment by the then pontiff, Benedict XVI, of the local bishop.

The Vatican newspaper, L’Osservatore Romano, reporting the pope’s unusually harsh order, said on Sunday that Francis was acting “for the good of the people of God” by threatening to suspend the priests from the ministry if they didn’t pledge in a letter, by July 9, “total obedience” to Francis and accept Bishop Peter Okpaleke’s appointment.

Mr. Francis told the visiting delegation he was “very sad” about the priests’ refusal to obey and ruled out tribal loyalties as explaining the refusal.

Africa has been one of the continents where the Catholic church is growing. The faithful and clergy there often imbue their practices with local culture in dynamic contrast to more traditional routines in Europe or North America.

Francis’ move to end disobedience to the Vatican aims at ensuring the growing church there will be loyal to the pontiff.

His remarks to the visiting delegation indicated how dangerous he viewed any rebellion against papal authority.

Those priests opposing Mr. Okpaleke’s taking up of his office “want to destroy the church, which is not permitted,” the pope said in his address to the delegation.

He added: “the pope can’t be indifferent” to the rebellion.

He has often taken a conciliatory tone in resolving disputes, but in this one he was entertaining no diplomacy. He demanded that each priest in the diocese write to him asking forgiveness and “clearly manifest total obedience to the pope.”

They must also accept the bishop chosen by Rome. If, within a month, each priest doesn’t do so, he will be “ispo facto suspended,” such as from the celebration of the sacraments, and “will lose his current office,” Francis warned.

Francis acknowledged that his move “seems very harsh.” He added that he had even considered the extraordinary remedy of suppressing the entire diocese but didn’t, so as not to hurt rank-and-file faithful.

He said he thought the rebellious priests might have been manipulated from outside the diocese or even abroad, but named no culprits.

In 2015, the diocese served around 520,000 Catholics, out of a local population of about 675,000, and had 128 diocesan priests and seven other priests. It wasn’t immediately clear how many of the priests were involved in the rebellion against the bishop’s appointment.

Policeman Commits Suicide After Shooting His Wife and Maid

Nasarawa State Police Command has confirmed that a policeman, Sgt. Thomas Agada, has committed suicide after shooting his wife and maid.

The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday at Masaka in Karu Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s spokesman, Mr. Kennedy Idirisu, told newsmen in Lafia that late Agada served at the Police command in the FCT, but resided at Masaka, where the incident occurred.

Idirisu explained that before killing himself, the deceased had shot and injured his wife and maid at their shop around De Memories Hotel in Masaka.

He said the wife and maid were currently receiving treatment at the Asokoro General Hospital in the FCT, adding that investigation had begun to ascertain the motive behind the shooting.

“We cannot say for sure now what could have led to the dastardly act but we believe that the wife, currently being treated would be of great help to our investigation, once she stabilises,” Idirisu said.

He also bought three phones for $6000 each and bought two houses in highbrow Magodo Estate in Lagos and another house in Ghana.

Evans was arrested in one of the houses in Lagos on Saturday, after eluding police radar for five years. 
According to Vanguard, Evans real name, Chukwudubem Onwuamadike,is from Umudim, Nnewi in Anambra state.

He was arrested at his Magodo residence around 1pm by operatives of the Inspector General of Police’ (IGP) Intelligence Response Team (IRT). It was gathered that the operatives got intelligence Evans was hiding in his Magodo mansion where he was surrounded.

The suspect was said to have run to the roof of the house for emergency exit but the policemen caught up with him. In the course of his arrest, he slammed the door against the operatives and injured a policeman.

 It was gathered that four AK47 rifles and over 50 magazines were recovered from the house.

Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris had announced N30million bounty for anyone with useful information that could lead to the arrest of Evans. Evans, security forces said, has been responsible for many high profile kidnapping in the southwest, south south and south eastern parts of the country..

Evans was said to be a brilliant criminal, who has given security forces sleepless nights. He was said to have collected billions of naira as ransom from his victims, including expatriates, business moguls and public office holders. A police source, who hinted on the arrest, said Idris deployed all resources at the Force’ disposal in the hunt for Evans.

He said their focus in the last one month had been to catch Evans alive so that Nigerians can have peace.

He claimed to have a wristwatch he bought for $170,000 and nine phones, three of which cost $6,000 each. The kidnap kingpin said he sent his wife away when he realised the police were closing in on him. He said he once relocated to Ghana and was planning to travel abroad before he was caught. The suspect is currently being interrogated by the police.

A sex slave chained up in a shipping container by a serial killer was rescued by police.Police found Kala Brown,30,  in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, after Todd Kohlhepp kidnapped her, locked her inside a container on his property and repeatedly raped her.

South Carolina sheriff’s deputies released her after hearing her screams inside a large metal container.
Investigators sawed and then pried open the bin to rescue Brown, who had been chained inside for about two months, according to police body cam footage which was released by prosecutors on Friday.

During the ten-minute operation, officers found a clothed Kala Brown, sitting on the floor with a chain around her neck stretching to the wall.
Speaking about her boyfriend Charlie Karver, who Kohlhepp also kidnapped, an officer asked Brown:

'Do you know where your buddy is?'

'Charlie? He shot him,' she said quietly.

'Who did?' an officer asked.

'Todd Kohlhepp shot Charlie Carver three times in the chest, wrapped him in a blue tarp, put him in the bucket of the tractor, locked me down here. I've never seen him again. He says he's dead and buried. He says there are several bodies dead and buried out here,' she said.

 Investigators went on Kohlepp's property to look for Brown and her boyfriend, 32-year-old Charles David Carter.
The couple had been missing for two months, and her cellphone indicated she might have been in the area when she vanished.
Police found three bodies on Kohlhepp's 95-acre property before they heard Brown's cries and rescued her.

Brown and boyfriendAuthorities say on the way to the hospital, Brown told them about how Kohlhepp confessed to killing a married couple before she was captured, and about killing four people at a Spartanburg County motorcycle shop - murders that were unsolved for 13 years.
Brown later told police that she came out to the property two months prior with Carter, for a cleaning job.
Kohlhepp shot Carter dead and then chained her up in the storage container where he continued to rape her on a near daily basis.

After finding Brown and arresting Kohlhepp, investigators searched the property and found Carter's body in a shallow grave, along with the remains of two other people.

 Kohlhepp also killed 29-year-old Johnny Coxie and 26-year-old Leigh McCraw-Coxie(below) in December 2015. They, like Carver and Brown, were lured to Kohlhepp's land after he promised them work.

Kohlhepp killed Coxie immediately and tried to keep McCraw-Coxie locked away, but he said he killed her after several days because she tried to burn the container after he gave her cigarettes.

Kohlhepp denied killing anyone else. He did say he shot a man in Arizona when he was 14, but could give few details. Authorities have not charged him with any additional crimes in other states.

Last month, Kohlhepp of Spartanburg County pleaded guilty to raping Brown and killing seven people.

According to the terms of the plea agreement signed by the 46-year-old Kohlhepp last month, he will serve seven consecutive life terms plus 60 years on kidnapping, sexual assault and other charges.
He will not be eligible for parole, and he also agreed not to appeal the sentence.
